Baptism is the first Sacrament of Initiation. It is our entrance into new life in Jesus Christ and membership in the Catholic Church. Baptism calls us to ongoing conversion. When a child is brought for baptism, parents commit themselves to make a home where the Gospel is lived. Godparents and members of the community promise to support the parents in this commitment. The sacrament of Baptism is a communal event and is celebrated in community. It is the practice in our parish to baptize by immersion during a weekend Liturgy.
Preparation
Parents intending to baptize their first child are asked to attend a preparation session. This is also true for those who are new to the parish or if five years has elapsed since you last attended a preparation session. If you have participated in the preparation within five years, but have not been actively engaged in the life of the parish, please call the parish office to arrange a visit with Sr. Virginia or Fr.Tim prior to scheduling your baptism.
Sessions are held at the Faith Development Center from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. Both parents are strongly encouraged to attend the session and child care is available if you request it when you register.
The next session will be held on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 from 6:30 to 8 pm. Please call the parish office at 967-3796 or email Laurie Delvaux to register.
